As an international phenomenon, World War II (WWII) had severe impacts on different regions of the world and on Iran. One of these regions, which was of global significance and was regarded as one of the most important economic and commercial centers in the world, was the Persian Gulf and its surrounding regions because at that time the Persian Gulf, being the most important economic trade route of Iran, had a great impact on political, economic and social developments of the country and any changes in the coastal areas and the surrounding regions could influence other, even the country's central, regions. In short, WWII had a direct impact on political, economic and even social life of the Persian Gulf and its surrounding areas and brought about different consequences. Therefore, drawing on reliable historical documents, this study, as its main concern, seeks to investigate the consequences of WWII, as an important historical event, for the Persian Gulf's coastal areas and hinterlands.
It is hypothesized that WWII had serious effects leading to negative consequences such as the spread of political divisions and the reduction in Iran's trade level and commercial relations with the world's trade regions and centers and as a result the appearance of economic depression and a downfall in the country's foreign trade in the Persian Gulf.
The present research took a scientific and historical approach, using library method and historical documents to study the effects aforementioned.
